Feel Beautiful - Emily

Emily is in my tribe. She's a mom, she lives in my zip code, we're in the same mommies group. We can talk birth stories and toddler behavior and momma joy/pain/highs/lows all day long. But when Emily talks about brain cancer, I just listen.

If you didn't notice her bald head, you wouldn't have a clue that she's been through chemo and radiation and is in the middle of a battle. She's vibrant and outgoing. Strong and bold. Funny and daring.

And just like many of my clients, she thought she was awkward in front of the camera. So let me go ahead and say - no, Emily, you were gorgeous in front of the camera.

Her story starts with a migraine that was like no other. Four days later, she was having an exploratory craniotomy while her 10 month old was at home.

She had to quit nursing before she was ready. She couldn't pick up her daughter for weeks. She was navigating motherhood with brain cancer, and was a novice at both.

But that's just the cards she was dealt, not who she is.

She jokes. She laughs. She collects sunglasses. And wears her Grandmother's vintage Chanel scarf.

And she was brave enough to book a Feel Beautiful Session whether she had hair, or not. Whether she was on pain meds, or not. She is the epitome of why we should all get in front of the camera. Because if not now, then when?

Baby Blues

I know a thing or two about big, blue eyes. My dad has them. My son has them. And one of my favorite clients has them.

He has those melt your heart, big blue eyes and the lashes to go along. And he conveniently turned one right when the Arboretum was in full bloom. What a little gentleman.

Liz & Danny

If you've poked around in my site, you've definitely seen this beautiful momma and her babies. Her littlest is almost six months old and I was thrilled when they signed up for a Mommy&Me Breastfeeding Session.

[Side note - if you're looking for other breastfeeding sessions, they are in my galleries under the Mommy&Me tab].

Breastfeeding Sessions are a great way to capture the mommy&baby bond and always come with a few bonus pictures of your baby. They also make great Mother's Day gifts...hint, hint.

One and a Half

My littlest baby had a half birthday this weekend and is now officially closer to two than one.

Sometimes, I can't believe she's approaching her SECOND birthday! What? But then I think about her birth and when she was tiny and that feels likes ages ago. So I guess I will let her keep growing.

I'm actually really enjoying her new abilities. She can follow directions. She can play in the backyard without falling off the deck. She can tell me when she's hungry with something other than a cry. And she can entertain her brother!

Those two are such a good pair and we really love watching them interact. He's nurturing and patient, she's rascally and eager. She follows him around, wants to do whatever he's doing and climbs on him non-stop. One day, he'll be really annoyed with her. But until then, we let them work it out.

So, her 18-month stats: 33.25 inches (90th%), 24lbs+2ounces (50th%). She just grew 5 new teeth (3 molars and two on the bottom next to the middle teeth).

She sings, dances, pulls on your hand to lead you places. She pats the seat next to her when she wants you to sit there. She loves to wrestle with her brother, color, and pour water on anything. She throws 8 second tantrums, but gives up pretty fast. She has some trademark faces and we love seeing all of them.

Happy Half Birthday, Lorelai!

A Brand New Blog

Hello! Notice anything different over here? I've been busy working on a new website, transitioning from a blog to a photography site so people can actually see what I do for clients! I hope you take a minute to browse around and check it out. I still have some tweaking to do, but it's officially open for business.

My new blog (with new address - artsymagnet.com/blog) will be more of a mix of my clients and my kiddos. I'll still be sharing our life and what we're up to, just alongside my photography for others. Like last week, when I had a session with a nursing momma and Lorelai got to tag along.

She was in love. In love. And I mean that in a "she won't let go of this baby" kind of way. Good thing my client is also a friend and was happy to share her handsome little guy.

In case you don't know, I'm a huge supporter of breastfeeding. And I love breastfeeding photography because it captures such an amazing time of motherhood. These sessions are truly some of my favorite to shoot and when this momma signed up for one, I just knew it had to be in her mid-century modern home that has amazing light in just about every room.

When we moved to the bedroom, Lorelai figured it was her turn to smother, I mean take care of, the baby.

But we were able to pry her off just long enough to get a few Mommy&Me shots.
